About

After meeting another Beard Team USA member at a Clutch concert, I decided to check out this website and become a member. I guess I haven’t seen my chin in over 12 years. Seldom do I let the ‘goat’ out. It usually remains braided or twisted up to look like a short, but full beard.

The photo on my profile was taken almost two years ago by Christy Blehm of ChristysPhoto.com. It’s grown a little since then.

  1. Bend, OR in June, eh? I think you should go….it’s longer now than in this picture! Glad you’re on here. :-)

  2. Cheers man! We have the same cut to our beards… granted yours is wicked red and about 4 times longer than mine but still. Hats off to you sir. Hats off.

  3. That’s a badass goat. Guys should be put in prison for destroying something that grand.

  4. You mentioned that you normally braid or twist it to look like a short beard and I’m curious how you do that. I’m at the point where my goatee is about 3″ – 4″ long, and I like it, but there are times when I wish it were short for some reason. Does it really look like a regular goatee or does your chin look like a hair bun – ala Dr. Lilith Crane from Cheers/Frasier?

  5. No Steve, u cant really tell that I’ve got it up. I just do a braid and then send it threw the back side rite below the chin until its all wrapped up. Makes it nice for me sense i do a lot of torch work.

  6. Thanks for the reply. I’ve finally figured out how to do it and, even though I’m still getting the knack and modifying my technique, I’ll get people commenting on how I cut my goatee. That means it must be decent enough!

Basically what I’m doing is grabbing a small clump of hair in the center under the chin and banding it into a ponytail with the band close to the skin. Then I take the entire goatee and make another ponytail with the band farther away from the skin. That point basically becomes the new bottom of my goatee.

After that I wrap the end of the ponytail up into a nice clump with with another rubber band or two. Then for the final step I run a 4″ tiptie through the base of that original ponytail and zip it up so that I’m squeezing the clumped up tip. It seems to work pretty well, and it’s strong as hell.

I’m glad to hear that I may still be able to hide it even at a huge length like yours.

It’s funny how I started researching this by using clips and pins in the hair department of the grocery story but didn’t have any success until I got my supplies from Lowe’s! At least I didn’t need duct tape.

  7. Your goate looks awesome. Red hair even looks better, great look to a handsome fave.

  8. Curtis,

My last Clutch show I did notice 3/4 of the crowd had beards (myself included). Great band and great goatee. Just joined the U.S. Team. Hope to meet you in PA 2011.
