The 2020 National Beard and Moustache Championships is happening, and it's all from the comfort of your own home! After purchasing a ticket, competitors will download their competitor packet and follow the steps to submit a video clip as their entry to the competition. These clips will be distributed amongst the judges for viewing. After the judges have made their decisions, we will compile all entries into a concise, suspenseful viewing format. It will be one of our top priorities to give each competitor screen time, much like how at an in-person comp every competitor gets time on stage. We will announce a date and time for the final release of the event where we can watch it “live” and learn who the winners are, together. After this premier viewing, we will move the feature to a platform which will enable casual viewing by anyone at any time, forever in perpetuity!
More information including category details and other links are available at the bottom of this American Beard Report. Check out some of our regular features on the way there!

How long have you been bearding?
I've been bearding for the last 3 years. Went to my very first competition in Charleston, SC in May of 2017, as a spectator and fell in love with it and the people I met! However my children competed before I did at Beardtoberfest in Fayettville, NC in October of 2017. My first time competing was in Nov. 2017 at the Whiskers of War at Virginia Beach. Honestly I almost gave up and not even competed. Everything that could go wrong that night did. But some really amazing whiskerinas convinced me to still compete! Although that night I didn't place and my beard was by far no where near as good as the other whiskerinas I was determined to get better and go to more competitions and compete and make new friends!
Have you won any awards?
Yes. I have placed at many of the competitions I have competed in. My 2 favorites so far was my very first win in Charleston, SC. I placed 1st in Women's realistic. And was in the running for the Women's best in show. And still to this day I can't believe I got best in show. My second favorite is the most recent at Carolina Bam. I got to compete against my daughter during the women's creative. Although I didn't place against her, I did place second in women's realistic. My son also competed that night we all placed 2nd as a family!
Why do you do it and/or Best thing about it?
For me bearding became a way to express creativity for me and my children. Personally I wanted something the kids and I could do together as a family. We as a family enjoy helping each charity that goes with each competition we attend. One of my favorite things about attending the competitions is meeting and getting to know new people and hearing their backgrounds. I also love meeting all the amazing whiskerinas!
Since you also involve your kids, how has bearding changed their lives?
Bearding for my kids has helped both of them open up more, gave each of them an outlet for their creativity. I have watch my children grow each time they climb on the stage. They become a different person sometimes when they are up there. To see shy kids open up and put on their own lil show for the crowd is amazing to watch! My children have also made friends that they now consider family!
Tell us something fun about yourself:
I'm not like most females. I enjoy working on cars and building a motorcycle. I teach special needs adults how to refinish furniture and make unique one of a kind crafts.

How long have you been bearding?
5 years
Have you won any awards?
I have placed in a few contests but highest was 2nd in Natural Sideburns (no mustache) last fall at Nationals in Chicago
Why do you do it and/or Best thing about it?
The comraderary and new friends I've made the last couple years is definitely what keeps me going to as many competitions as I can. Helping and learning about all the different charities that are helped is a very strong 2nd.
If you could be any super hero, would would it be?
Super hero would probably be Hulk

How long have you been Bearding?:
In 2014 I did a little local street fair beard contest, had a good time but thought there had to be more to it than that, so I did some research on beard and mustache competitions. July 2015 I attended my 1st organized beard competition – Whiskermania I.
Have you won any awards?
I’ve placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd, judged a few and even won best in show once. I’ve been fortunate enough to have place 1st in 7 different categories. My biggest win was the entire year of 2019, my retirement from competing tour so to speak. I shaved my beard off in stages so I could compete with my friends in their categories. To share those experiences with those that I consider friends was a WIN.
Why do you do it, or what’s the best thing about it?:
Of course we all have fun and yes there is a competition but let’s all keep sight on why we do this .. CHARITY, CHARITY, CHARITY .. one of best things is how often can you have this many “A” type personalities together and never have an issue .. I think that’s because deep down most people in bearding are kind souls.
Please give us a fun fact that we might not know about you:
If you know me this is a BIG deal .. I was a designated driver once .. yep it’s true.

How long have you been bearding?
This is my 3rd year I've been rocking a full beard..I've always had a goatee or a some form of facial hair. But in 2017 I went full!
Have you won any awards?
The first competition I entered ever, was the 2019 National Beard and Moustache Championships, in Tinely Park. The category was 7' to 12', and I won!! I entered a few online comps as well, came 2nd for both..so I will be competing in the future.
Why do you do it and/or Best thing about it?
I did it because for two main reasons.
1. I found that beards had a certain stigma attached..and I wanted to change that, by getting at least one beard in a boardroom, well a big beard, and I accomplished that. As well as my former employer was very accepting of my beard and it became my unique signature.
2. I started to realise the comradery and brotherhood that's part of the bearded lifestyle was amazing. I've made friends, like yourself from all ends of the globe and I love it!
Besides bearding, what do you do for fun?
Some other fun stuff I like to do is, well once able to again, is Travelling as well as food..I love trying and experiencing new cuisine. Dogs, I like hanging out with my Rottweiler as well any other doggy. I also like working out, although I don't look like I do, I really do. I like sports both watching and playing. From cricket to tennis, I'll sit and watch a good game. Motorcycles rounds out my interests..owned two sport bikes but sold them both, for now, hopefully one day in the not to distant future I can own a bike again.
That's me basically, fun loving, easy to get along with, happy and bearded!
