The 2019 National Beard and Moustache Championships are coming! We hope that you can join us!

Many competitive Beardspersons had the recent opportunity to travel to Antwerp for the 2019 World Beard and Moustache Championships! America received 28 podium placements, including FIVE first place awards. Full Results can be seen here. While occurring at the pre-party the night before the Championships, 4 “Ladies” categories were offered at this WBMC, making it the 2nd consecutive WBMC to include Ladies/Craft categories. BTUSA has assurances from the New Zealand Fellowship of the Beard that Craft categories will continued to be offered in 2021. The destination and host club for the 2023 WBMC was decided, and that event will be held in Bristol England and will be hosted by the Wessex Beardsmen.

The next World Beard and Moustache Championship will be held in Auckland New Zealand in March of 2021.

There are many Moustache and Beard competitions happening all over America on any given weekend. The majority of these events work towards supporting a local or regional non-profit group or other community organization in need. For upcoming competitions in your area, please check out the Alliance Competition Calendar. While you are there, browse their site and see what they are all about!

Moustache Battista

Our very own MJ Johnson caught up with fellow BTUSA Member Moustache Battista from Hopewell Junction, NY...

MJ Johnson : How many Beard and Moustache Competitions have you been in?

Moustache Battista: I have competed in 4 Beard and Moustache Competitions.

MJ: What was the first thing that went through your head when you won at the 2019 World Beard and Moustache Championships?

Moustache Battista: When I realized I won the World Championship I was stunned! It has been a long term goal of mine and I felt beyond happy. Especially to share the stage with the legendary Jeffrey Moustache.

MJ : You are a real life American Ninja Warrior. What can you tell us about the athletic event and when we can all hope to watch you on TV competing in ninja games?

Moustache Battista: I have competed in American Ninja Warrior now twice. First time was in Season 9 back in 2017. I had a mental error and went out early in the Qualifier episode. I most recently competed in Season 11 this year at the Baltimore Qualifier. The episode will air on NBC on July 1st so keep an eye out for me while you watch!

MJ: I asked the American Mustache Institute what a mustache brings to the table as far as sports goes. They had quite a bit to say…

“Through the use of cutting-edge research techniques in the field of Nuclear Mustachology, our clinical investigators have proven that a mustache can fundamentally improve an athlete’s output by an average of 37.4%. This has, of course, led to a significant uptick in recent years, with the mustache being the only performance-enhancing facial supplement still allowed by every sport worldwide (sans male synchronized water aerobics).”

MJ: What are YOUR thoughts on that?
Moustache Battista: I would have to 100% agree with The American Mustache Institute and all of the cutting edge research being performed in the field of Nuclear Mustacheology. Since growing my Moustache our over 4 years ago I have experienced incredible gains in my athletic abilities! When I’m styled English it even helps with my balance and special awareness skills. Most of all it helps boost confidence in everything that you attempt.

MJ: The National Beard and Moustache Championships are November 9th in Tinley Park, Illinois. If you go, what category might be on deck for you? You have quite a few options...
Moustache Battista:  I will be in attendance for the US Nationals and I will be going for the W in Freestyle. I want to take the “triple crown” in that category since I currently have the GABMC title and World title so it would be amazing to add this one.

MJ: Thank you so much. I’ll get it in the Newsletter faster than you can scale a wall. Well, maybe not THAT fast but, pretty fast.
